20 Years Ago today..

Can you believe it's been 20 years since the Berlin Wall came down? Remember the famous line... 'Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this Wall.' by President Ronald Reagan?

I was a Junior in college in Colorado. I remember watching the news in amazement of the people on both sides of "the wall" tearing and pulling pieces down. People from both sides were running and hugging one another though they didn't know each other at all. The freedoms that occurred on that very day... I can only imagine what the people of Germany felt.

My husband said that he sat in his apartment and cried. He was 24 at the time, so you can only imagine. Anyway, he said there had been protest for weeks. Political Scientist perticted that it could take years before the wall would come down, but within days it fell. This meant for the first time they would get to meet his family on the otherside without the hassel of going through check point charlie.

Wow. That is amazing. I was only 8 years old at the time and have no recollection of that. What an amazing thing to see. This post touched me a lot since many of my ancestors come from Deutschland. Thanks for sharing this, A.
